City Council
City Council is the legislative body of the City of Chardon responsible for the drafting and passage of laws. To accomplish this task, Council frequently meets with the Manager, city staff, and the general public to identify and pursue the priorities of the City. Matters before City Council include economic development initiatives, finances, improving and maintaining utilities and infrastructure, local criminal laws, and nuisance abatement. Everything the City does comes through City Council in some fashion.
City Council consists of seven Council members, all of whom are elected "at-large" by the entire City. City Council members are part-time public servants elected for four-year terms.
The Mayor is a member of City Council who presides over the legislative body, and serves as the official head of the municipality for all ceremonial and military defense purposes, and by the Courts for the purpose of serving civil process. The Mayor does not have any veto authority over the acts of Council.
Council Meetings
Meetings of City Council are typically held on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM, with the exception of City holidays. Meetings are held in Council Chambers at the Chardon Municipal Complex (111 Water St.) near the square. All meetings of City Council are open to the public.
